On this architectural walk, we will meet at the entrance of Bókasafn Kópavogur and walk to the Kópavogur Community Center, Fannborg 2, which is the oldest building in what is now the town center of Kópavogur. We will, among other things, explore architectural styles such as late modernism, brutalism, and postmodernism, the treatment of building surfaces, and how transportation and traffic shape urban development. Few places intertwine these elements as artfully as Hamraborg, and the town center could be called Iceland’s first densification zone.
