Hamraborg Festival is an artist-run festival happening every year in the heart of Kópavogur, Iceland. This year’s edition takes place from 28th August - 4th September.
The festival focuses on a community-based approach and site-specific practices. The programme includes exhibitions, performances, workshops, concerts, and more. All works are displayed in public spaces and cultural houses in Hamraborg.
The submission deadline to apply is February 12, 2026 at 15.00 GMT.
We want to hear multitudes of perspectives and welcome artists and makers of all kinds. Artists from all communities within the Icelandic art scene and beyond are invited to apply. Artists with a connection to Kópavogur are especially encouraged to share their work.
What are the dreams that live in Hamraborg?
Dreaming is a way of imagining beyond what is in front of us. It allows us to revisit forgotten memories, question realities, and think about possible futures. Dreams can move us or shake us, bring moments of clarity, complexity and everything in between. Through the practice of dreaming we are able to look at things differently and connect with feelings of kinship, grief, wonder, and reciprocity with environments.
For the 6th edition of Hamraborg Festival, we invite a wide community –artists, neighbors, families, aliens, and curious wanderers to participate in a shared dream that moves across time, stretches both backward and forward. Join us and present works that spark joyful curiosity, critical reflection, and collective re-imagining!
How do past memories meet possible futures? Whose imaginings are allowed to come to light? How can we dream our homes, our relationships, and imagine our collective spaces?
Look again. Imagine an alternative. Together, in Hamraborg!
