Fossil tree – explorative research lab

Fossil tree – explorative research lab

For the Hamraborg festival, a temporary pop-up research lab will open in the Natural History Museum of Kópavogur.

The lab work will focus on a fossil tree in the museum's collection, originating from Loðmundarfjörður in East Iceland. The main research questions are: how, when and why did the fossil tree materialise? When was it discovered and how did it end up in the collection? What can fossil trees reveal about nature, time and context? These topics will be explored through materials owned by the museum, external references, and verbal sources. The lab results will consist of photographs, notes, timelines, diagrams and found sources.

The lab is open for guests and will be open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, Friday, Aug 29, to Tuesday, Sept 2. After that, the lab results will be displayed in the museum's exhibition area from Wednesday Sept 3 - Friday Sept 5, during museum opening hours.
