This paving stone offers shelter to a species that is welcome nowhere. Despite its ecological role, beauty and usefulness, dandelions are unpopular in the gardens and are usually pulled up by the roots or poisoned. Dandelions are not even allowed to grow in peace in the Botanical Garden. But here in Hamraborg, marginalized beings are given a much-needed concrete refuge.

The pavement will outlive us all. The man-lion, with origins in medieval manuscripts and sculptures, is now in the gutter. It takes on the role of guardian, protecting the dandelion and all its future offspring that will sprout from the paving stone of their ancestor. May Hamraborg live for a thousand years and may weeds always be welcome here.
