We Carry the Sun is a three-day open workshop inviting participants to explore representation, belonging, and the beauty of difference through printmaking and collaborative collage. We’ll create a collective wheatpaste mural in the Hamraborg parking garage—an artwork designed to shift and fade over time, embracing the ever-changing nature of public space.
The workshop includes two sessions:
All-ages drop-in workshop at the Kópavogur Library
Youth-focused workshop (ages 16–25) at the Molinn Youth Center
Collaborative mural assembly with snacks at the Hamraborg car park
Using copy machines, scanners, and printers, participants will respond to a series of open-ended creative prompts. For example: "You have been invited to Mars. What do you call yourself? What are you?” Use words other than 'human'—preferably in an alien language. Write or draw your response, then print it out."
Workshop facilitators will guide participants in exploring prompts like this, using hands-on artmaking to reflect on identity, belonging, and difference. The final mural will become a collective expression of the many forms of energy we carry within us—each a different way of holding the sun.
