Drifting through Kópavogur - Mapping workshop

Drifting through Kópavogur - Mapping workshop

This workshop is an attempt to uncover the unseen emotional and sensory landscapes of Kopavogur. Participants of all ages will form small groups (3–4 people) and be sent in different directions for a 30-minute dérive (drift) through the town surrounding Salurinn. During our walk, we will take note of our emotions, conversations, pace, and reactions to different areas. We will take photos, do some rough sketches, and upon returning, we will translate our experience into hand-drawn maps on transparent paper, layering subjective perceptions over the physical landscape. These maps (drawn on transparent paper) will then be overlaid on an actual map of Kopavogur, creating a new, collective representation of the city shaped by movement, memory, and feeling and drawn by the people of Kopavogur.
The result of this workshop will be an evolving, multi-sensory exploration of Kopavogur, revealing how individuals navigate and interpret urban space. The workshop will last two hours, culminating in an installation that combines all collected maps, recordings, and images into a new, lived map of Kopavogur—one created through the personal and collective experiences of its people.
