Ævintýri (Fairytale) is an installation of art-objects that mimic the remains of fairytale events that are left scattered throughout the library. Through these small interventions, the artist highlights the library's surreal qualities, aligned with dreams and the stories held within its walls. Inviting kids of all ages to find the child within themselves, letting their imagination run free momentarily.
The work consists of magical objects, created using the traditional craft techniques that Diljá was enamored of as a child: leatherwork, embroidery, beading, braiding, wirework. These ancient crafts are present in the fairytales she loved as well as family stories passed down through generations. Through the creation of objects that merge the fact of labor with myth, Diljá plays on ideas of what makes something valuable, and delights in the malleability of belief and evidence.
The objects can be discovered by following the treasure maps provided at the entrance. The first 100 children who complete the hunt are awarded a prize at the reception desk.
