Gunndís Ýr Finnbogadóttir graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from Piet Zwart Institute and Plymouth University in 2008 and a Master of Art Education from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2011. Gunndís is an Associate Professor at the Department of Art Education at the Iceland University of the Arts and is working on a doctoral project at the University of Iceland, exploring the relationship between bodily movement (with a focus on walking), environment, and thought.
She works in a variety of media, including installations with text works, performances, and events that reference places and the contextual circumstances in which the works are shown. She often works with site-specific subjects related to experiences of places, vegetation, or natural phenomena, and has a particular interest in documenting changes in the environment. In her works, she uses text, various methods of documentation, drawing, paper, video, and other media to connect the viewer with the environment and time.
Gunndís is a member of the research project Freedom to Make Sense: embodied, experiential and mindful research, developed by researchers at the University of Iceland and the Iceland University of the Arts in collaboration with over 20 universities and research institutions worldwide. MakeSense explores innovative methods of embodied and experiential research at the intersection of philosophy, artistic research, and cognitive science.

Mariana and Gunndís have collaborated on several teaching and research projects and will continue observing and documenting the plants ans stories in Hávegur and in other areas. Recently, their article Bodies of Water: Outdoor Sensory Learning in Local Places was published in the IMAG journal:
