Michael is an ongoing photographic portrait series by Danish visual artist and curator Emilie Dalum, which began in 2012 with its first photograph taken in Iceland. Over more than a decade, the project has grown into an extensive, deeply personal collaboration rooted in friendship.
The photographs are, on one hand, a record of Michael Richardt's life as both a performance artist and a private person. On the other hand, the colourful images, spreading across the walls and crawling up the ceiling, map the evolving relationship between two friends and artists, as well as between the person in front of the camera and the person behind it.
The series invites reflection on how close relationships and artistic practice can take shape alongside one another. In doing so, it opens up questions about what a portrait can hold, whether a life can ever be captured in images, and to what extent we can truly see another person, even when we share a deeply personal connection with them.
All exhibitions open on Friday, August 28 at 5pm and remain open during each location’s regular opening hours until September 4.
