Birdwalking

Birdwalking

How would you describe the Oystercatcher?

Which bird reminds you of home?

Have you ever felt free as a bird?

Every August and September, while Hamraborg hosts its art festival, the mudflats of Fossvogur quietly host a festival of their own. Thousands of migratory birds pass through on their way south after spending the summer in the north. Join us as we walk from Gerðarsafn down the hill, through human and more-than-human neighbourhoods, toward the shallow bay. At the shoreline, we will set up the telescope and tune our attention toward the mudflats, attending to what we find, and to what finds us. The tide will decide what is visible. The birds will decide the rest.

____

The event is free and lasts approximately 60 minutes. It is conducted in English, open to all ages, and moves at a relaxed pace. We meet at Listatún, behind Gerðarsafn at 1 PM, but you are welcome to meet us at the endpoint: the intersection of Huldubraut and Marbakkabraut, if that is more convenient. Parking is available nearby. Bring a warm layer, and binoculars if you have them.

In true birding fashion, the walk happens regardless of weather.

Let's look for birds together!
